ITINERARY

Your private driving guide will pick you up at your hotel in Rome  and drive through a scenic drive to Fonte Colombo sanctuary, situated in a secluded area in a forest of centuries-old oaks. Then you continue to the tiny village of Greccio, where you have lunch in a typical family run restaurant overlooking the Holy Valley. In the afternoon you visit the spectacular Greccio Sanctuary, perched on the edge of a steep cliff. Last stop would be La Foresta, a peacful retreat with  a 13th century church and a cave used by St Francis to find rest. You return back to Rome in the late afternoon

The Sanctuary of Fontecolombo is the site chosen by Saint Francis to write the Rule of the Franciscan Order. Everything is sacred here: the buildings, the pure spring waters and the forest itself because it houses the Sacred Cavern where Saint Francis wrote the Rule. La Foresta is a convent of extraordinary beauty in the Holy Valley, where the Saint wrote the The Canticle of the Creatures, which  has been celebrated in song and in art throughout the centuries.
