DESCRIPTION
Orvieto origins go back to the 9th Century B.C.The site of the city is among the most dramatic in Europe, rising above the almost-vertical faces of tuff cliffs that are completed by defensive walls. Orvieto was a Roman colony and belonged to the Papal State. It is famous worldwide for its fabulous cathedral, which contains the chapel of the Corporal of Bolsena, preserved in a rich reliquary. During the Eucharistic Miracle bread and wine become the Body and Blood of Christ at the moment of consecration during the Mass. The altar of the Eucharistic Miracle can be seen in St. Christina's Church in the little town of Bolsena as well as the Chapel of the Miracle, where the stains on the paved floor are said to have been made by the blood from the miraculous Host.  Civita di Bagnoregio is a gem in central Italy. It was inhabited by the Etruscans 2500 years ago and today it is noted for its striking position atop a plateau of volcanic tuff overlooking the Tiber river valley.
