Padre Pio-Pietrelcina-Lanciano
3 Days/2 Nights Departure/arrival: Rome HIGHLIGHTS
DESCRIPTION This tour in the footsteps of Padre Pio includes the places where he was born (Pietrelcina) and where he spent a part of his life and died, (San Giovanni Rotondo). Here you will see his tomb inside the Church of Our Lady of Grace and his cell, his confessional, the crucifix from which he received the stigmata, and nearly everything he owned or touched, carefully preserved. The new Church, completed in 2004 and considered a notable example of modern architecture can accommodate 6,500 people seated at worship and 30,000 people standing outside. The shrine also includes a modern Way of the Cross. The Sanctuary of St. Michael the Archangel is a sacred cave and popular Catholic shrine near San Giovanni Rotondo. Here the Archangel Michael is said to have appeared in 490, 492 and 1656 and consecrated the shrine himself. A flight of stone steps leads down into the atmospheric church incorporating the cave in which St. Michael appeared. The main church and the areas that lead to it are decorated with remains of medieval frescoes and sculptures. In Lanciano you will see the urn with the blood and the flesh of Christ (Eucharistic Miracle). |
