The church and cloisters were founded in 1213 by Saint Francis. The saint often spent time in a cave near Narni, a charming village in Umbria Region, in order to pray. There is a story attached to the place whereby he once took ill here and was visited by an angel who invoked beautiful violin music to soothe him.
